About the Artwork

Xavier Laurent Leopold is a multidisciplinary artist, author, and lecturer from South London. His practice explores time, introspection, faith, relationships, and collective memory, often engaging with themes of mental health and legacy. A recipient of the Sir Frank Bowling Scholarship, he is currently pursuing an MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art. Leopold's work has been exhibited in London and internationally, including at the Dak'Art Biennale in Senegal. He has also showcased his work alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat in Brooklyn, New York, within an international context. As an advocate for mental health, Xavier authored Art for the Heart, a globally distributed activity journal that promotes creative expression for children aged 7-12. The book is stocked at prestigious institutions such as MoMA and Tate Modern, and Xavier facilitates workshops across the UK based on its themes. In a significant personal achievement, St James’ C of E Primary School in Bermondsey named their Year 6 class 'Leopold' in his honour. Xavier takes great responsibility in being present in the lives of the pupils, supporting their growth and encouraging them to embrace their creativity and potential. In addition to his artistic practice, Xavier is a passionate champion for mental wellbeing, serving as a Place2Be advocate, supporting the charity that works to improve children's mental health. He also lectures at universities such as Sotheby’s Institute and the University of East London and sits on the Board of Trustees for The Africa Centre, an organisation promoting African art and culture in the diaspora
