Ayodele Ukana is a multifaceted artist proficient in painting, sculpting, welding, and etching. His work spans a spectrum of styles and mediums he has developed and mastered over the last three decades. Deriving his wellsprings of inspiration from life, the intricate tapestry of human existence. "His creative impulses materialize in sudden flashes of insight and ideas that leave an indelible imprint upon his soul." As an artist, he shuns the confines of rigid ideologies. Instead, he begins a ceaseless quest to discover fresh ideas and perspectives to conquer novel mediums. He is motivated by an intrinsic compulsion to actualize the innate ideas and gifts within him. To him, art serves as a conduit, a universal language through which he propagates indigenous African culture and engages with the world. He sees himself as a commentator on societal issues, a steward of culture, entrusted with preserving and elucidating its essence. Ayodele Ukana's journey into the arts began with two years of intensive training at a private school, (Institute of Textile Technology Arts and Design) in Lagos, (1986 - 1988). Over the past three decades, Ukana has participated in series of art exhibitions: His first group show, "Treasures in Culture"- was in 1992 at the National Museum Onikan, Lagos. "Birth of Inspirations" in 1994 (Group), at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos. "Signs Of The Time "(Group), in 1995 at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos. "Small Small Things" (Group), in 1997 at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos. With his insatiable desire to conquer new grounds, he ventured into the building industry between 1998 and 2010, creating metal furniture and wrought iron works for architectural projects. In October 2012, he staged a come back and had his first solo exhibition, "Portraits of the Mind" at the Didi Museum on Akin-Adesola, Victoria Island, Lagos. In March 2015, he participated in a group show titled" Lagos Hustle and Hope" at Rele Art Gallery, Onikan, Lagos. In September 2015, Ayodele had his second solo art exhibition titled; "Inspirations" at the prestigious Harrow Park Golf Club in Central Area, Abuja. He is a member of the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA). In 2017, he participated in the 10th Edition of (October Rain) Art Exhibition organized by the Society of Nigerian Artists, Lagos State Chapter. He was awarded a Distinguished Artist Award by the Society of Nigerian Artists, Lagos State Chapter, in December 2017 for his outstanding commitment to art. And has been featured in several publications. Newspapers, catalogs, and magazines. Ukana has executed many commissions in paintings and sculptures for private and corporate institutions in Nigeria. His works can also be found in other countries such as France, Canada, UK, and the US. One of his sculptural pieces executed in 2018, titled "Mother Africa" can be found at the Headquarters of the African Development Bank in Abuja. In 2020, he was inspired to embark on a project centered around a collection of miniature metal sculptures titled "The African Queen Series." Motivated to honor African women, he sought to capture and celebrate their beauty, resilience, sacrifice, devotion, spirituality, strength, and love through this body of collection. And over the years, his repertoire has flourished, matured, and ripened like fine wine. His ability to express and interpret has deepened, imbuing his works across various mediums with a distinctiveness that captivates admirers and collectors. Ayodele recently ventured into the digital space by creating his own collection of Nft's. His love and passion for the Arts have kept him going, and he has never looked back. Ayodele Ukana is a family man, a poet, consultant, a cultural ambassador, an avid reader, a digital enthusiast, and a dedicated studio artist currently available for commissions and collaborative projects.
