Ruth Getachew (b. 1998) is a visual artist based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She earned her BFA in Painting from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa University, in 2023. Before that, she studied at Abyssinia Fine Arts & Vocational Training Center (2005–2008, 2010, and 2011), where she completed several summer programs and received five certificates. She works primarily in collage and mixed media collage, a focus she has developed since her final university years and continues to explore today. Alongside this, her past work spans a wide range of media—including oil and acrylic painting, watercolor, ink painting, ink drawing, charcoal, color pencil, pen, graphite, marker and some forms of printmaking—reflecting both the breadth of her training and her ongoing exploration of artistic materials.

   Ruth held a solo exhibition at Social Addis Gallery, Addis Ababa, in 2025, and her work has been included in local and international group exhibitions at venues such as the Goethe-Institut, the Ethiopian National Theatre, Artawi Gallery, and The Holy Art Gallery, where her works were also featured in the gallery’s art magazine. She received multiple awards at sub-district, district, and city-level competitions organized by the Addis Ababa City Administration Culture and Tourism Bureau (2015, 2016) and the City Government of Addis Ababa Education Bureau (2015, 2016). Her work has also been recognized by The Ethiopian Herald (2019, 2024) and by Contemporary African online art platform (2025). In addition, Ruth has participated in academic conferences and workshops hosted at Addis Ababa University, the Ethiopian Press Agency, the Modern Art Museum–GKDC, and Artawi Gallery.
