The Nigeria Art Society UK (NASUK) was founded in 2013 by a group of pioneering artists who received their initial art training in Nigeria before relocating to the UK in the late 1980s and 1990s. These artists, having previously formed and participated in other collectives, such as the Society of Contemporary Nigerian Artists, faced numerous challenges, including funding issues that led to the dissolution of their earlier group. Driven by their passion for art and a commitment to their cultural heritage, the members continued to collaborate individually, building their careers and gaining recognition in the art world. Their shared experiences and determination led to the reformation of their collective efforts, culminating in the establishment of NASUK. Today, NASUK stands as a testament to the resilience and creativity of Nigerian artists in the diaspora, promoting diverse artistic expressions and fostering a vibrant community for future generations.
